News

Not too much to post right now. Iterative is still going strong. We've been spending the last few months finishing development on our UT 2K4 mod, UETF Chronicles. This is in not necessarily the final version of UETF as it has gone through multiple versions over the years, but just the latest iteration (hence Iterative Games...yes yes, we're so clever). However, this is kind of a big deal for us since we will be entering this into the IGF mod contest (deadline is the end of the week). This is not the first foray for us into the competition/contest arena. A previous version of UETF was entered into the "Make Something Unreal 2005" contest sponsored by Nvidia. In that contest, UETF won second place for best gametype during phase 1, was a finalist for best FPS mod in phase 2, and was an honorable mention for best FPS mod in phase 4. Given that, I think we've got a decent shot at this contest.

We are also finally moving forward with making Iterative Games an official company. For the last year, it's mostly existed in name alone, but the commitment of those involved has started to grow as well as the product itself so it seems like a logical step now. There are still a few details that need to be worked out, but the timeline is set to unveil the new company by the end of the year.

My blog game is weak

After being MIA for 4 months, I wanted to be able post about some secret project that had final come to fruition or at least some great epiphany, but alas, there is none of that today. My absence from this blog has been disappointing because it means that business development has stalled. However, I have a reasonable excuse. I moved. I'm now living in New York City and hopefully starting a new and exciting part of my life, both professionally and personally. The whole moving process was an ordeal, but it is over and I'm finally settling into my new place.

Iterative Games is still the main project I'm working on. We've got a couple of exciting stuff lined up on the horizon so please stay tuned. I'll also continue to update on my experiences as a young entrepreneur. Please check back often.

Some Early Lessons

Being relatively new to the world of business, in particular the startup world, I tend to read a lot of blogs and articles related to startups, entrepreneurship, technology, and marketing. As I continue to develop this blog, I'll be adding to the currently enemic blog roll on the left and I hope to highlight some useful articles and resources that I find along the way. One good article I stumbled upon today was written by Paul Graham, a pretty experience guy in the world of technology and startups. The article is great for new entreprenuers just starting their business because it highlights some important lessons learned. Even though it tends to focus on technology startups, it's still applicable to anyone trying to start their own business.

Resurrection

I'm back and hopefully for good this time. Things have been rocky lately and I decided to completely scratch what little I had on this site and start anew. With my travel prospects beginning to disappear, some semblance of order is returning. I'm also reenergized from the travel and ready to get back to the mission at hand: making money.

Right now, things are focused on one project: Iterative Games. This is the most viable project on my plate right now and since it's something I'm working on with a close friend who I grew up with, I'd rather focus my energies here. To quickly summarize, Iterative Games is an independent game development company specializing in computer gaming. Our current offering is UETF Chronicles, a mode for Unreal Tournament 2004. In December 2005, we officially released our new mod (UETF has actually been in existence for a couple of years already) to a strong reception. Since then, we've released two more updates to the mod with added features and content. We've been very happy with how much content we've been able to release, but UETF is still in its infant stages and still has a long way to go until it becomes what we envision. We have been encouraged by feedback from users as well as support from web sites and magazines (we were featured in a German PC gaming magazine recently; i should have pdfs of it soon.) In the next few weeks, we'll be making an announcement concerning a major shift in our product development. It's a secret for now as we're still working out all the details, but I think it's the right decision and will position us well as a company.

Beside Iterative Games, I've got some other projects that I want to work on, but the issue right now is time. I'm planning a move soon so that will only make things a little harder, but I think it will be for the better.
